CITATION OF HER EXCELLENCY DR. MRS. EUNICE E. ORTOM WIFE OF THE GOVERNOR OF BENUE STATE
The story of Eunice Erdoo Ortom, Ph.D, wife of the 5th democratically elected Governor of Benue State and Founder/Chairperson, Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF) is one of continuous success and effective leadership that at once emphasize the roles of mentorship and submission to authority in grooming future leaders.
Born of a parentage of Gwer West and Ushongo mix, Dr. Mrs. Ortom’s marriage to Dr. Samuel Ortom from Guma has also given her the broad-based view she brings to bear on her X-ray of Benue issues, as she legitimately has a firm rooted claim to both zones A, and B with a paternal Grandmum from Otukpo in Zone C. Dr. Mrs. Eunice Ortom is truly the Mother of Benue, both by heritage and now, occupation!
 Dr. Mrs. Ortom’s career has been as interesting, as has her ancestry.
Beginning a public service career as a youth Corps member, Eunice Ortom rose through the ranks of the Administrative cadre from administrative officer II to Principal Administrative Officer.
Her works of experience seems to derive from the broad spread of Ministerial experience as she traversed the offices of Accountant General, Ministry of Information, Youth and Sports, Finance, Head of Service. Benue State Development Project on HIV/AIDS and Benue State Aids Control Agency (BENSACA), where she was the Gender Focal Person.
All the above took the hardworking Eunice Ortom Seventeen years to achieve, between 1998 and 2015, before embarking on her present leave of absence.
Career aside, Dr. Mrs. Ortom’s strides in Education have equally been phenomenal. She attended Queen of the Rosary Secondary School Gboko, where she obtained the General Certificate of Education in 1988. Thereafter, Eunice Ortom proceeded to the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Obtaining a B.Sc (Hons) in International Studies.
Her quest for more knowledge led Mrs. Ortom to obtain an M.Sc. in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Benue State University in 2004.
A calm lady, adept at the permutations for effective combination of Family, Educational and Work life, Mrs. Ortom was to, again yield to the desire for more knowledge with the enrolment for, and subsequent graduation with a Ph.D in Political Science from the same Benue State University in 2016, the event in respect of which we are gathered here today.
Dr. Mrs. Eunice Ortom is the loving wife of an accomplished husband, Dr. Samuel Ortom, present Governor of Benue State, a loving mother of six adorable children, a God-fearing Social mobilizer for youth and Women causes, and an avowed philanthropist.
Her NGO, Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF) is devoted to the thematic areas of Health, Education, Agriculture, Youth and Women Empowerment. Prior to ESLF, Dr. Mrs. Ortom’s humanitarian and charity work was done under the umbrella of Oracle Business Ltd Foundation (OBLF), which began in 2006.
Aside Founding and Chairing the Board of ESLF and her OBLF activities, Dr. Mrs. Ortom is Chairperson, Board of Directors of the Benue State Action Committee on Aids (BENSACA), USAID Net Ambassador in the fight against Malaria, UNICEF Champion/Advocate against Adolescent HIV and Matron, Association of Private Nursing Practitioners of Nigeria, to name a few top level activities in which the workaholic Eunice is engaged.
 I present to you Her Excellency, newly minted Ph.D., the enigmatic Eunice Erdoo Ortom.

In Benue State, the wife of the Governor, Dr. Mrs. Eunice Ortom and founder of an NGO Eunice Spring of Life foundation (ESLF) on Wednesday embarked on a “Read Aloud” tour of primary schools in Makurdi, the state capital to stimulate the culture of reading in the young ones. The schools visited include Anglican Nursery and primary school, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Nursery and Primary school and LGEA primary and Nursery school Demekpe. In each of the schools visited, Dr. Mrs. Ortom read a story “The Sneetches,” a children’s storybook authored by Dr. Seuss, to the pupils and they shared the lesson learnt after listening to her. The founder of ELSF commended the active participation of the pupils and encouraged them to make reading, a habit. “I want you to read more than you play. To be literate, you must read,” she asserted, explaining that “reading helps a child to develop the ability to think well, judge well and make better and positive decisions” S

Wife of the Governor of Benue State, Dr. Eunice Ortom has described the free medical services provided in the state by FUTURE ASSURED, the NGO of the wife of the president Federal Republic of Nigeria Mrs. Aisha Buhari as an important democracy gain. Dr. Mrs. Ortom stated this in a speech she delivered recently at the free medical outreach of FUTURE ASSURED, held at Government Girls College Makurdi She lauded the relevance and timeliness of the programme to assuage the plight of the masses imposed by the current recession in the country thus intensifying people’s expectation on government intervention. “Altogether, thousands of our people have received medical attention that will go a long way to improve their health status to live healthier and happier lives and be more economically productive.
